Heat Treatment Guidelines

Critical Temperatures: Ms: 340°C | AC1: 740°C | AC3: 810°C

Normalizing

  • Normalizing should be carried out at temperatures between 850°C and 880°C followed by air cooling.
  • Depending on the component dimensions, subsequent tempering may be necessary.

Soft Annealing

  • Annealing is performed at temperatures of 650°C – 700°C followed by slow furnace cooling.

Quenching and Tempering

  • Hardening should take place at temperatures of 830°C – 860°C followed by quenching in oil or aqueous polymer solution with comparable quenching effect.
  • Tempering treatment should take place immediately after hardening to avoid the occurrence of cracks if possible.
  • Tempering should be performed at temperatures between 540°C and 680°C followed by air cooling.
