Rene 41 / N07041 / 2.4665 — Introduction

Rene 41, designated UNS N07041 and Werkstoff Nr. 2.4665, is a precipitation-hardening nickel-chromium-cobalt superalloy engineered for sustained high-temperature service up to 980°C. Its exceptional creep rupture strength, oxidation resistance, tensile properties, and hot hardness make it a cornerstone material in aerospace propulsion, industrial gas turbines, rocket engines, and high-performance fastening systems where mechanical failure is not an option. The alloy derives its strength from a high-volume fraction of gamma-prime (Ni3(Al,Ti)) precipitates, reinforced by solid-solution hardening from cobalt and molybdenum, plus grain-boundary stabilization through controlled boron and zirconium additions.

At Fushun Metal, Rene 41 is manufactured through a fully integrated triple-melt route under one roof. VIM primary melting under high vacuum prevents oxidation of reactive elements—aluminum, titanium, and boron—that are fundamental to precipitation strengthening. The VIM electrode then undergoes VAR, where controlled directional solidification in a water-cooled copper crucible eliminates macro-segregation and produces the chemically homogeneous, low-inclusion microstructure required by aerospace prime contractor specifications. For applications demanding maximum sulfide cleanliness and isotropic mechanical properties, we deploy PESR as the final remelting stage, achieving deep desulfurization and oxide refinement through reactive slag chemistry under inert gas shielding.

Every heat is processed, forged, heat-treated, and tested within Fushun Metal’s certified quality management system—ISO 9001 for manufacturing process control and AS9120B for aerospace distribution traceability. Our in-house 6000-ton hydraulic open-die press, 1800-ton precision radial forger (GFM), and multi-stand 850/550/350/250 rolling mills enable an unusually broad dimensional envelope without outsourcing—ensuring uninterrupted lot traceability from melt to delivery under ISO 9001 and AS9120B. All forged products are ultrasonic tested to AMS 2375 Class A and accompanied by mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 as required.

Rolled Round Bar

Diameter 6 mm – 260 mm. Length 2,000 – 6,000 mm. Solution-annealed or fully aged per AMS 5712/5713. Centerless ground to h8/h9 tolerance. Supplied as straight random lengths or precision cut-to-order.

Rolled Flat Bar

Thickness 3 mm – 60 mm, width 10 mm – 400 mm. Length up to 4,000 mm. Hot-rolled and annealed surface finish. Edge-conditioned: sheared, sawn, or chamfered per customer drawing.

Forged Round Bar

Diameter 80 mm – 800 mm. Length 1,000 – 8,000 mm. Open-die forged on 1800t/6000t presses with controlled reduction ratios. Rough-turned or finish-machined. UT inspected to AMS 2375 Class A.

Forged Flat / Disc / Ring

Mechanical Properties of Rene 41 — Per Product Form

The values below represent minimum guaranteed properties after solution treatment at 1080°C (air cool) followed by single-step aging at 760°C for 16 hours (air cool), per AMS 5712 and AMS 5545. This heat treatment maximizes room-temperature tensile strength and fatigue resistance, making it the preferred route for disc, shaft, and fastener applications operating at intermediate temperatures.

For components requiring maximum creep rupture life at sustained temperatures above 870°C—such as turbine blades, nozzle partitions, and combustion hardware—Fushun Metal supplies Rene 41 in the alternative heat treatment condition: solution at 1180°C (air cool) plus aging at 900°C for 4 hours (air cool). This higher-temperature solution cycle coarsens the grain structure and optimizes the gamma-prime size distribution for long-term thermal stability. Both heat treatment routes are performed in-house under calibrated furnace controls and Nadcap-compliant procedures.
