1. Specifications & Capability
FUSHUN METAL produces heavy crossbeams for hydraulic presses – the upper, middle and lower beams – in single pieces of 50-333 t, with a production record of a 333 t beam. Construction is forged, welded, or a forged-and-welded combination, machined to close tolerances.
These are the largest structural forgings FUSHUN METAL supplies, produced to EN 10025 and the user specification with full traceability.
| Grade | Standard | Single Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Forged steel (S355 / 42CrMo4) | EN 10025 / EN 10250-3 | 50-333 t |
| Cast steel | User specification | Up to 400 t |
2. Components & Service Conditions
The crossbeams are the structural members of the press frame: the upper beam carries the main cylinder, the lower beam supports the work, and the moving beam transmits the pressing force. They carry the full pressing load in bending, so both strength and stiffness govern the design.
For the largest beams a forged-and-welded construction combines forged sections of verified soundness with welded assembly, giving a strong, stiff frame without the internal defects that would limit a pure casting. Each beam is machined to close tolerances so the press guides and cylinder seats align precisely under load.
3. Grade Equivalents – S355 / 42CrMo4
| Designation | Standard | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| S355J2+N / 1.0577 | EN 10025 | Structural steel |
| 42CrMo4 / 1.7225 | EN 10250-3 | QT alloy steel |
| Cast steel | User specification | Cast option up to 400 t |
| Q345 | GB/T 1591 | Reference only, not used in certification |

| Grade | C | Si | Mn | Cr | Mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S355J2+N (1.0577) | 0.20 max | 0.55 max | 1.60 max | – | – |
| 42CrMo4 (1.7225) | 0.38-0.45 | 0.40 max | 0.60-0.90 | 0.90-1.20 | 0.15-0.30 |
S355 is the standard frame steel; 42CrMo4 is used where higher strength or wear resistance at the guides is required.
4. Manufacturing Process
Forging & welding. FUSHUN METAL forges the beam sections on an 80 MN press, then assembles them by welding into the finished frame member where a forged-and-welded construction is specified.
Heat treatment. Stress relief and normalising are applied to the welded assembly to stabilise dimensions.
Machining. The beam is machined to close tolerances on guide ways, cylinder seats and locating faces.
Testing. UT, weld inspection and dimensional verification, with full traceability.
5. Standards & Certification
Crossbeams are supplied to EN 10025 and the user specification, with inspection certificates under EN 10204 3.1. FUSHUN METAL holds ISO 9001 and AS9120B certification.
Related forgings: press columns and press cylinders.
6. Typical Applications
Upper beams
Upper crossbeams carrying the main cylinder.
Middle beams
Moving crossbeams for the press ram.
Lower beams
Lower crossbeams supporting the work.
Forging presses
Frame members for large hydraulic forging presses.
